While it is true that major IPs dominate the market, when new proposals emerge based on curious concept mixes, many of us instinctively turn our eyes to them. This is the case of The Forever Winter, a multiplayer looter shooter announced last February as a mix of the sci-fi worlds of Terminator or Warhammer 40K, devastated where human life is worth nothing, and the subgenre of survival, which many assumed would take eons to arrive, but it will not be the case. Fun Dog Studios’ game will arrive this September on Steam via early access.
As we mentioned in its announcement, the idea of immersing ourselves in a devastated sci-fi universe where, similar to Terminator, an AI rose up against the human race and devastated it to its last consequences, is curious and appealing. The more we saw of The Forever Winter, Fun Dog Studios’ debut, and the more we learned about its inspirations, like that grimdark touch a la Warhammer 40K and its semi-open survival world, the more we placed it on the calendar, although without a specific date. Now we can pencil it in: September 24th.
Early access that needs player input
That said, while it is good news because it means we can try it sooner than expected, it may not satisfy those players who are not very interested in early access. However, the studio wants to be cautious with their project and for that, they need our feedback. This early access, as mentioned on their Steam page, will be active for an indefinite period of time, and although development is progressing well, it is still far from being concluded.
In this early access, we will have access to four fully finished maps, five playable characters, and several dozen weapons to test its gameplay proposal. As for the narrative content, while it is true that The Forever Winter will have a story and a narrative background, what we will find on September 24th will be a small portion of what the studio plans to tell.
For now, as we mentioned, we do not know how development will progress in the coming months, or perhaps years, but the early access of the project will start soon with a price of 27 euros. In addition, the studio commits not to significantly increase the price of the looter shooter and has set a maximum of 29.99 euros throughout the early access, in case they need to adjust their price.
