Waiting for Warhammer, Henry Cavill signs up for the adaptation of a legendary 80s science fiction anime: Voltron

Published:

It can be said that Henry Cavill has not had much luck this year, even though he has worked with two great directors. But both Argylle and The Ministry of Dirty War performed well below expectations at the box office. Now, the actor is preparing to star in the live-action adaptation of a legendary science fiction anime, Voltron. The news has been confirmed this afternoon.

From the director of Netflix’s biggest hit

It is a development that is quite advanced, so much so that it should start filming as early as this fall with Rawson Marshall Thurber as director. Thurber has a long career as a filmmaker, but is perhaps best known for directing three blockbusters starring Dwayne Johnson, including Red Notice, the most-viewed movie in Netflix history. The screenplay for the movie is written by the director and Ellen Shanman.

Henry Cavill will be accompanied, for now, by Daniel Quinn-Toye in the cast of a movie being produced by Amazon & MGM Studios. There are no further details about the project, nor about the storyline, other than it is based on the animated series, science fiction, and mechas of the same name that millions of children grew up with over 40 years ago.

In general terms, Voltron told the stories of a group of five young soldiers who had to come together to create a gigantic robot, from which the series takes its name, to protect the galaxy. Amazon & MGM Studios have not set a release date for the movie, but with filming scheduled for the last weeks of the year, it is not expected to be released before the beginning of 2026, unless there is a surprise.

Remember that Henry Cavill is awaiting a live-action adaptation of Warhammer 40K for which there have been no recent updates. The actor is also set to star in a remake of Highlander.
