It didn’t take long after Valorant was released for Tyson “TenZ” Ngo to become one of its most recognized faces. There are very few names that mean more to Riot Games’ tactical shooter than that of the Canadian player from Sentinels. Not only was he among the first professionals to bet on the title, but he has also become one of the most successful. A feat that, as if that were not enough, he accomplished while becoming one of the most popular content creators in the world. However, this duality has ultimately ended his career.
TenZ announces he will stop competing in Valorant
Through an official statement posted on his YouTube channel lasting over eight minutes, TenZ has informed the community that he will no longer be a professional Valorant player. The reason for this decision, as mentioned earlier, is related to the workload involved in combining competition with content creation. The Canadian has amassed over two million subscribers on the Google video platform. Additionally, he also streams on Twitch with an average of around 15,000 viewers.
Although TenZ has stated that quitting competition was a difficult decision, he also wanted to be realistic about the situation. Regarding content creation, he said, “There is no comparison in terms of effort, work, and the part of your life that competitive play takes away.” Additionally, he valued the freedom of schedules he would have from now on to be able to do more both in terms of live streaming and his personal life. Ultimately, the player assures that this is a well-thought-out choice that he actually made at the beginning of the year.
TenZ’s choice is relatively common among players in his position. In fact, his decision is identical to what Mixwell decided a year ago. At least, the player was able to bid farewell to his professional career in grand style with a victory at the VCT Masters Madrid and a top 4 at the last world championship. The player will remain involved with Valorant in this new adventure as a streamer and shortly after his announcement, he could be seen live playing with Kyedae.
