Up to 5 Dragon Age games could be born in weeks. The director of The Veilguard is so obsessed with the RPG saga that he can’t stop thinking about new stories – Dragon Age: The Veilguard

We are just three weeks away from the release of a new Dragon Age, something we haven’t been able to say for almost a decade. After many doubts about the future of BioWare and several notable failures, the Canadians are ready to return to the market once again with The Veilguard. However, this has not dampened their expectations for the future, as made clear by John Epler: the creative director of the RPG has so many ideas for future Dragon Age games that he could “write the story of five more projects” in “a couple of weeks.”

The new Dragon Age will balance drama and comedy

It has been almost ten years since the last release of the saga, Dragon Age: Inquisition in 2014, which has heightened anticipation for The Veilguard, the upcoming installment. Epler describes this sequel as a blend of the tones of Inquisition and those of Dragon Age: Origins from 2009, stating that the new game seeks to balance tragedy with lighter moments. According to the director, the characters in Origins not only faced great challenges but also had a humorous side, something he has tried to replicate in The Veilguard.

Epler has also emphasized the emotional complexity of the characters in The Veilguard. While some of Rook’s companions have lighter personalities, each carries a tragic background and moments of deep despair. This narrative approach aims to create an effective contrast between the dramatic and the comedic, maintaining the essence that has characterized the IP since its inception.

In an interview with IGN, and looking beyond this game, Epler, who was the animation director of Dragon Age: Inquisition, mentioned that he could lay the groundwork for five more games of the franchise in a couple of weeks. He highlighted his constant inspiration from the Electronic Arts license; and although they would not be complete stories with a highly structured script, but basic concepts and key elements that would shape the narrative, his enthusiasm suggests that the legacy of Dragon Age still has a lot to offer.

With Epler’s words, Dragon Age followers can have hope that the franchise will continue to grow. While there are still no concrete announcements about future titles, everything will depend on how the project performs, both in sales and in reviews and player reception, especially after the stumbles with Mass Effect: Andromeda and Anthem.
