United States should no longer worry about China, but about the United Arab Emirates and their intention to grow in the technological field

Published:

A few days ago we learned that the United Arab Emirates intends to gain strength in the most decisive technological sector: the semiconductor industry. To achieve this, the sheiks of the Asian country are presenting development proposals to TSMC and Samsung, two of the most important companies in the sector that could benefit from billions of euros to build their manufacturing plants. However, it seems that the UAE is also looking for partners in North America.

Emiratos Árabes Unidos pasa de los planes de Estados Unidos, apuesta con fuerza por TSMC y Samsung y da un golpe sobre la mesa en el sector de chips

As indicated by the Reuters portal in a recent publication, Joe Biden will meet with the president of the UAE to discuss collaboration in artificial intelligence and advanced technology, a topic in which China also has interest. In this way, the Asian region is seeking greater access to American technology and, through this, intends to build its own advanced technological industry. In fact, they have already secured investments of 1,000 million euros in Microsoft in the past and have collaborated with NVIDIA.

Goodbye to ties with China

As expected, the United States has shown concern about the close relationships that the United Arab Emirates maintains with China. Therefore, they have decided to restrict some technological exports, fearing that these may be shared with the Asian country. In addition, to what has already been mentioned, it should be added that the UAE is investing billions of euros in AI, an investment that has resulted in the development of Arab apps similar to ChatGPT. With this commitment, country officials believe they can be key economic players when demand for oil decreases.

Thus, the United Arab Emirates is seeking to develop its own AI to not depend on third countries that may control or limit access to advanced technology. In fact, although the United States distrusts the ties that this region maintains with China, many see this possibility as an option to strengthen the technological relationship between Americans and the United Arab Emirates. However, China does not plan to lag behind, as it hopes to strengthen cooperation through companies like SenseTime or Terminus Group that already operate in the country.
