After years of attempts, Ubisoft is closer than ever to fulfilling one of its major goals. The company has confirmed this through a social media post announcing the completion of filming for the Watch Dogs movie. The film adaptation of the ‘hacker’ saga, produced by the same company that brought Assassin’s Creed to the big screen, is now practically inevitable.
Record-breaking filming for the Watch Dogs movie
The announcement of the completion of filming for the Watch Dogs movie has surprised us by coming much sooner than expected, as only 72 days have passed since the start of filming was announced. While there are many factors that can influence this creative phase, it is indeed slightly below the standard. For example, the aforementioned adaptation of Assassin’s Creed took 137 days to film, according to IMDB data.
Details regarding the Watch Dogs movie are very scarce at this point. We know that Mathieu Turi (Total Darkness) will be directing, Christie LeBlanc (Oxygen) is handling the screenplay, and the lead couple is composed of Tom Blyth (The Hunger Games: Songbirds and Snakes) and Sophie Wilde (Tell Me). However, Ubisoft has only confirmed that it is “an original story” that does not follow the script of any of the previously released video games.
The big question is whether this release will lead to any other developments in the franchise. Adaptations like the Fallout series have shown us that these projects can generate a significant surge in popularity for the based saga. However, the future of Ubisoft is still uncertain and we don’t have much information on what the company is working on beyond Assassins Creed Shadows.
