Many players, and spectators, have a very strange fondness for classifying as “attractive” those works that deform children’s worlds, stories, and tales to border, or dive straight into, terror. In this context, one of the hidden gems of 2021 was Lost in Random, a game that despite being on Game Pass and inspired by Alice in Wonderland, barely made an impact. Now, its creators have introduced their new game, The Midnight Walk, a terrifying project made of clay and stop motion for PS5, PC, and PS VR2.
The Moonhood studio, formed by veterans of the acclaimed Lost in Random, has presented their new title, The Midnight Walk, a horror adventure inspired by the visual style of Tim Burton. The game will be available in 2025 for PS5, PS VR2, and PC via Steam. What sets The Midnight Walk apart is its universe, entirely modeled in clay and then translated into 3D format, giving it a unique and handcrafted visual aspect, full of unusual details and textures in the world of video games.
A game for virtual reality, but not exclusive to it
In The Midnight Walk, players will control “The Burnt One,” a mysterious being who, accompanied by a peculiar candelabrum creature named Potboy, must venture through a dark and dangerous world. The game’s mechanics combine lighting and puzzle solving, as the candelabrum will be the only source of light illuminating the shadowy paths. Additionally, the title promises an immersive experience both on a traditional screen and in virtual reality, so if you do not have a PS VR 2, you can still play it without any issues.
One of the most intriguing aspects of the game is its handcrafted creation. All the scenarios and characters have been hand-molded with clay before being scanned and turned into 3D models, providing a stop-motion aesthetic reminiscent of classic animated films. According to the creators, this artistic approach aims to convey a unique terror, where every detail in the game world reflects the care put into its physical construction.
Although the exact release date has not been confirmed yet, The Midnight Walk is expected to include a deep narrative, structured in five different stories related to fire, both its life-giving power and its destructive capacity. Players will have to use their wits to overcome macabre enemies and dangers lurking in every corner, while uncovering the mysteries surrounding the protagonist and his relationship with fire.
Moonhood has shared that their goal with The Midnight Walk is to create an experience true to their original artistic vision. The team emphasizes that this game represents the culmination of years of collaboration, maintaining its creative style intact. Fans of horror and games with a unique visual focus have much to look forward to when this handcrafted game arrives on platforms in the spring of 2025.
