The Lenovo Legion has everything I need

Published:

Over the decades, we have played with all kinds of gaming equipment, whether in the form of video game consoles or computers. As enthusiastic gamers, we always want to stay up to date with the latest releases, but our wallets don’t always allow it. So, we must try to extend the lifespan of our recent acquisitions as much as possible. At least, that’s my approach when it comes to upgrading gaming equipment: I want it to last me for a couple of generations.

When it comes to gaming laptops, things get a bit complicated: they do not allow for component upgrades as much as a desktop gaming PC (upgrade options are limited to RAM, storage, and little else), and the proximity of components and the high temperatures they reach shorten their lifespan significantly.

With these things in mind, just over a year ago, I decided to purchase a new laptop. After a lot of research, I ended up choosing the Lenovo Legion. And I couldn’t be happier.

The Lenovo Legion 5 Gen 6 is a discreet, powerful, and quite affordable laptop for what it offers

Specifically, it is the Lenovo Legion 5 Gen 6. One of the variants that features a NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 6 GB GDDR6. At the time, it slightly exceeded 1,500 euros, but now we find very similar models to the one I purchased for 1,399.99 euros on Amazon (there are newer and more powerful options, but they are also more expensive). It’s a great price considering not only the components it houses (which, while not top of the line, are more than enough to play at 1080p at 60 FPS or higher on ultra settings), but also the build quality, finishes, and design.

After playing on MSI and Asus ROG and Asus TUF laptops, across different price ranges, I prefer the Lenovo Legion for everything. Of course, this comes down to personal preference, but in my experience after almost two years of playing all kinds of games on my gaming laptop (many hours in the summer, even during the hottest hours), as I said, I couldn’t be happier. Thanks to its great cooling system with four outlets (two on the sides and two in the rear area), it is able to maintain very good temperatures under load. And neither the keyboard nor the mouse area heat up to the point of being annoying.

Additionally, using its keyboard is a delight (even though it’s in Portuguese, the only noticeable difference will be in the location of the accents). It also has a good number of ports and even allows you to cover the webcam with a dedicated button that deactivates it electronically. It’s not too thin but not too thick either. It weighs, let’s not deceive ourselves, but this is a trade-off to be expected in this type of equipment. And I especially appreciate its discreet and minimalist design, the hinge system and the good performance it continues to offer me to this day: thanks to DLSS and its RTX 3000 card, it still has a lot of life left. But on the (hopefully distant) day when I have to upgrade, I will probably opt for the new generation of this Lenovo Legion.
