The Last Dance also has post-credits scenes, we explain how many and what they mean for the future of Marvel

Published:

The Venom saga has evolved since its debut, and its third installment, Venom: The Last Dance, aims to be a final chapter and farewell for the character. Despite not being part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, this movie follows the trend set by Marvel productions: including post-credit scenes that create anticipation and provide clues about future releases.

Spoiler Warning: This article describes the final content of Venom: The Last Dance and provides details about the movie’s plot.

Number of scenes and description

Venom: The Last Dance includes two post-credit scenes that hint at new storylines for the future of the franchise. The first one appears right after the initial credits and is short but impactful. In it, Knull, the shadowy villain of the movie, reappears, proclaiming that he plans to conquer the universe. This declaration not only positions Knull as a threat, but also leaves open the possibility that the symbiote and its host, Eddie Brock, could return somehow.

The second post-credit scene unfolds after the full credits roll. In this scene, we return to the setting of the movie’s final battle, the ruins of Area 51. Through the forgotten waiter who serves Eddie in the early scenes of the movie, a new intriguing element is introduced: a cockroach approaches a test tube containing remnants of a symbiote.

Meaning and what they foreshadow for the future of the Marvel cinematic universe

The post-credit scenes of The Last Dance are not only a nod to fans but also serve as a bridge to the future of Sony’s Spider-Man Universe. Knull’s assertion that he has come to take control of the universe suggests that the story does not end here, but could be laying the groundwork for a larger conflict. This parallel with previous MCU events, especially with the rise of Thanos (referenced in the movie), does not seem coincidental. Like Thanos, Knull is a very powerful villain whose threat may require multiple heroes to come together to face him.

The second and final post-credit scene of Venom 3 shows that at least one of the symbiotes has survived the events of the movie, suggesting that, despite Venom’s apparent defeat, some of his essence has survived. In this puzzling epilogue of the film, an unexpected cockroach (also referenced during the movie) touches a broken vial containing the Agony symbiote, accompanied by a flash of colorful rays. This conclusion leaves many unanswered questions about the future of the symbiote and its relationship with the characters, immersing the viewer in a mix of confusing elements that do not provide a clear resolution, but directly link the scene with the character of Dr. Payne. Has only Agony survived? Does this mean that the rest of the symbiotes have also survived? Does that include Venom? Will the next movie be led by a cockroach?

Will Venom return to the theaters?

The question many fans are asking is whether The Last Dance will truly be the last Venom installment on the big screen. Despite the promise that the movie’s title seems to make, both recent statements from star Tom Hardy and the subtly not-so-subtle final dialogues of Venom suggest otherwise, that Sony has plans for the future of Venom. The post-credit scenes make it clear that there is potential for more stories, although the movie provides an emotional closure for Eddie Brock and Venom. Knull’s return implies that, if the movie is successful at the box office, we could see more adventures of the symbiote.

It’s important to remember that, despite the initial confusion in the movie, a small piece of the Venom symbiote was trapped in the traditional Marvel cinematic universe (MCU), that of Tom Holland’s Spider-Man, as seen in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Could it be that Peter Parker, not Eddie Brock, will be the host of the symbiote’s next cinematic appearance?

The future of Venom in the cinema will largely depend on the success of this movie at the box office and the audience’s reaction. Given that the Venom films have proven to be profitable, especially in international markets, it is likely that Sony will seek to continue the story if The Last Dance manages to capture the audience’s interest. The combination of narrative elements and the possibility of a crossover with other Marvel characters could be the magnet that attracts more viewers to the theaters. Don’t forget that Venom: The Last Dance hits theaters on October 25th.
