“That would disappoint some people”. To make The Elder Scrolls 6 a success, it must add something new about Skyrim, according to a Bethesda veteran – The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

Many players dream of playing The Elder Scrolls 6, although Bethesda is still busy with Starfield and their upcoming fantasy RPG. It will still be several years before the release, as the project moved out of the concept phase last year. However, while we wait for that moment, there are some former Skyrim developers who want to share their opinions on what a great sequel like the sixth installment of The Elder Scrolls should be like.

This time, the lead designer of Skyrim, Bruce Nesmith, who has also worked on Starfield, Fallout 4 and 3, Oblivion, and Daggerfall, has spoken. In a conversation with Kiwi Talkz, the Bethesda veteran mentions what The Elder Scrolls 6 needs to be successful following its predecessor. “When we think about making sequels, we look at a couple of different things. We have to consider ‘what should it do the same, what should it do differently, and what should be new?'” he wonders.

I spend more time testing Skyrim mods than playing Skyrim, and it's not my fault

“And there has to be something significant in each of those aspects. If a sequel doesn’t offer something different from the previous ones, then it’s just a sequel in name only,” he indicates. He also points out that The Elder Scrolls 6 must maintain everything that fans are used to. “If Bethesda made a new Elder Scrolls game and didn’t have the content you were used to (elves, daedra, orcs, etc), that would probably disappoint some people,” he states (via Gamesradar).

The Elder Scrolls 6 must bring something new

“If you’re not bringing something new to the table, then it’s like ‘okay, I already played this,'” he says. He then reveals what innovations were included in Skyrim compared to Oblivion. “We had several new things in Skyrim, with dragons being the number one, but also the entire story system where the world becomes highly reactive to the players’ actions,” he concludes.
