Ryan Reynolds finally has his successor as Green Lantern. After several failed candidates, Kyle Chandler will be Hal Jordan in the new DC series for Max.

Good news for James Gunn and his new DCU at Warner Bros. The cinematic (and television) universe of the director of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is taking shape and a few hours ago it was reported that Kyle Chandler has been cast as Hal Jordan in Lanterns, a series in development for Max.

DC Studios has not officially confirmed the recruitment of the galactic cop yet, but as it is information from Deadline, we can confirm Chandler’s arrival in the DCU. His addition to the franchise ends several weeks of rumors and failed candidates, with names like Ewan McGregor and Matthew McConaughey reportedly declining the job offer according to an insider.

Kyle Chandler may not be as well-known to the general public, but he has shown his acting abilities in memorable roles such as the coach of the Dillon Panthers (and the East Dillon Lions with Michael B. Jordan as quarterback) in Friday Night Lights, a very successful American football series that, unfortunately, is not currently available on platforms.

What do we know about Lanterns, the science fiction series

We are still awaiting the announcement of who will play John Stewart in Lanterns. This series, as a reminder, promises to deliver a sci-fi crime thriller greatly influenced by True Detective, taking its characters on a mystery investigation in the heart of the United States. A tone clearly different from that of Green Lantern, the Ryan Reynolds film that the Deadpool actor has often jokingly distanced himself from.

Lanterns is expected to start filming in early 2025, confirming itself as the first fully original live-action fiction of the DCU if we exclude Peacemaker, which aired its first season as part of the now-defunct DCEU. In December, Creature Commandos, an animated series, will also premiere.
