Although there are many rumors pointing to the possibility of the arrival of the RTX 5000 series, the truth is that NVIDIA has yet to clarify the matter. A few weeks ago, Jensen Huang (CEO of the company) admitted that he was unable to imagine the future of AI video games, but beyond this statement, we have not had any other relevant declarations related to the hypothetical revision that NVIDIA is already working on. However, the rumors are gaining strength and, as a direct consequence, some are already pointing to January 2025 as the key date for the future of NVIDIA.
As indicated by the portal TechSpot in a recent publication, many have claimed that CES 2025 (an event that will take place in January) will become the stage where NVIDIA presents the flagship models of its new graphics card family: the RTX 5080 and the RTX 5090. However, this narrative is starting to change and, according to different insiders, it seems that we will also have the opportunity to see the RTX 5070, a GPU that could potentially disappoint users if it opts for the 12 GB of VRAM that the 4070 already has.
Other details of the RTX 5070
The same news indicates that the RTX 5070 will opt for faster GDDR7 memory at 28 Gbps, which in turn will have a 192-bit bus. As for the CUDA cores, there are not many certainties yet, but it is most likely that the GB205 processor will enable a maximum of 6,400 cores. In addition, in terms of power consumption, we will see an increase, as we will go from the 200 W of the 4070 to the 250 W that its successor may require. Without a doubt, it would be an attractive GPU for those who do not want to make a big investment to buy a 5080 or 5090, but given its performance, it is not as appealing as to consider a switch.
The same news indicates that the RTX 5080 will have 16 GB of VRAM, support for 32 Gbps GDDR7, 10,752 CUDA cores, and a power consumption of 400 W, while the RTX 5090 plans to surpass the rest: 32 GB of VRAM, a 512-bit bus, 21,760 CUDA cores, and an energy consumption of 600 W. Additionally, there are also rumors about a 24 GB version of the RTX 5080, as well as the existence of single slot 12V-2×6 power connectors compatible with PCIe 5.0 and DisplayPort 2.1a. Either way, we would still have to wait a few weeks to find out if this information is real.
