Update (13:45h) – PlayStation has resolved the issues regarding the PSN network service on PS5 and PS4. There has been no explanation provided at the moment.
This week hasn’t started well for PlayStation, much like last month didn’t end well after the announcement of the PS5 Pro. In this case, following player criticisms over ads appearing on the PS5 home menu, hundreds of thousands of players shared numerous and repeated errors when trying to access PlayStation Network systems this early morning; an issue that is not isolated and has been confirmed by Sony themselves: PlayStation systems have crashed and are running at reduced capacity worldwide.
Since this early morning, around 3:00 am (Spanish peninsular time), many players have taken to Twitter to share their doubts about the inability to access PlayStation Network services, seeking answers about whether it was a specific connection error or a general one. The doubts turned into complaints as the hours passed, until an official message raised the alarm: “We are working to resolve the issue as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience,” The Verge reports.
A message that only exacerbated the problem, which, although it happened in Spain during the early hours, affects the whole world, preventing access to online services for all games, to digital games we own, or even to our own account in some cases. “The fact that we can’t play the games we paid for is a reminder that we don’t really own anything digital,” wrote a user on Twitter.
With over 110 million registered users and 103 million monthly active users on PlayStation Network, the players’ anger is substantial. However, we are still awaiting better news. The services are experiencing significant technical issues, but we still have no information about the exact cause of these errors, as Sony works on a short or medium-term solution. For now, all we can do is wait.
PlayStation has “fixed” the advertising issue on PS5
As mentioned earlier, another issue PlayStation has faced this week relates to its image and the inclusion of advertisements related to games on the PS5 home menu. This advertising appeared on each game tab we had installed, reminding us, for example, of a game’s overall rating or offers related to a saga.
Apparently, according to Ask PlayStation’s Twitter account, this was due to a technical error on the PS5 that has now been fixed. “There have been no changes to how game news is displayed on PS5,” added the account. However, this issue coincided with the PlayStation Network outage, leading some to believe this error could have escalated to something more serious.
