The video game industry has changed radically over the years. Now, much attention is focused on hyper-realistic Triple A games, powerful consoles, and cutting-edge graphics; a trend that has resulted in the so-called ‘console war’, as well as multiple debates on social networks about the strategies of PlayStation, Microsoft, Nintendo, and any company that wants to make a name for itself in this highly competitive market. However, the owners of Super Mario really do not want to have anything to do with this eternal battle. A philosophy that Shigeru Miyamoto, one of the most important figures at Nintendo, has reiterated in a new interview.
Specifically, the creator of Super Mario, The Legend of Zelda, Star Fox, and other memorable IPs has addressed this topic in a conversation with Famitsu (via Stealth on X) that has served to promote the new Nintendo Museum in Japan. “If we want to preserve all of Nintendo’s old products and help people understand what Nintendo is, then it would be great if not only the employees, but also the generations of parents and children who know Nintendo, understood the company,” Miyamoto begins when discussing the image they want to convey with Nintendo.
“I hope that people understand this and that Nintendo will not get involved in the so-called ‘console war’, with high specifications and console game performance,” continues the professional with a laugh. “I thought it would be a good opportunity for people to understand that Nintendo will continue to do unique things using various current technologies, and that it will continue to create not only video games, but also movies, and that we are a company that creates diverse entertainment content.”
Nintendo Switch 2 is on the way
Always aiming to go ‘solo’ and not get involved in the console war, Nintendo is already finalizing its plans for the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2. Details regarding its technical specifications and first exclusive games have not been shared yet, but we know that Nintendo plans to present its console at some point during this fiscal year. Therefore, we will learn more about the device before March 31, 2025.
