The battle between Microsoft, Apple, and NVIDIA to claim the title of the most valuable company in the world is becoming increasingly fierce. A few days ago, it was NVIDIA that reclaimed its throne, as the rise of artificial intelligence has elevated the company’s value to historic figures. And as a reward for Microsoft’s longevity in the race to be the company with the best numbers in the world, Satya Nadella (CEO of the brand) has received a compensation of 73 million euros despite requesting a pay cut.
As indicated by the TechSpot portal in a recent publication, Nadella saw his compensation increase by 63% compared to 2023. For many, this raise seems illogical, as Nadella himself requested a salary reduction as an act of responsibility in response to security issues at Microsoft, including significant cyberattacks and the CrowdStrike case. However, what many do not know is that, in reality, his cash incentive was reduced by more than 50%.
Most of his earnings come from stocks
As the original news story points out, Microsoft’s compensation committee accepted Nadella’s request and reduced his cash incentive. Therefore, he went from earning 10 million euros to receiving just under 5 million euros, but to this figure must be added the awards in stocks. Thanks to these, his values increased from just over 35 million euros to the 68 million euros he obtained through this option.
For the company’s compensation committee, Nadella provided exceptional leadership that was crucial to the company’s performance and the repositioning of its investments and priorities. However, the most striking aspect is that this is not the highest compensation Natella has received, as in 2014 (when he assumed the CEO position) he received 80 million euros. However, a decade ago, there was no technological crisis that has claimed tens of thousands of jobs.
