The Lord of the Rings saga is also returning to television and the big screen. It turns out that Peter Jackson is working on a new film of The Lord of the Rings with Andy Serkis (Gollum) as director. The project will focus on Gollum and explore untold stories, although it is still in its early stages of production. It is set to be released in 2026 and aims to be one of Warner Bros.’ major productions in the coming years.
However, this news raised questions for many fans of the Tolkien saga wondering if the main characters from The Lord of the Rings trilogy would return for this new film. Ian McKellen (Gandalf) has given his approval, Viggo Mortensen (Aragorn) also sees it positively, but what about Orlando Bloom (Legolas)? The actor himself has answered this question in an interview with Variety, and viewers can rest assured because he is open to it.
“I really don’t know what they are planning. I talked to Andy Serkis and he told me they were thinking about how to do things. I asked him, ‘How does that work?’, and he said, ‘Well, AI’, and I was like, ‘Oh, okay!’. It was a pretty magical time in my life, and it’s one of those things where there are no downsides,” he says. Regarding playing Legolas again, he says: “Oh man, those things are amazing. Yeah, I don’t know how they would do it. I guess with AI you can do anything these days. But, if Peter Jackson says ‘jump’, I say, ‘how high?’. I mean, he started my whole career,” he concludes.
