The upcoming 2025 is shaping up to be an intense year in terms of releases. The industry seems to want to leave behind the problems of recent years, the bumpy developments, and the layoffs. Many of the projects that began development during the pandemic are reaching completion. Among them, Death Stranding 2, the next game from Hideo Kojima, is emerging as one of the most innovative of the year, where the Japanese creator plans to take the madness of the first installment even further. However, despite repeatedly stating that it will be released in 2025, today we know that Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is far from being finished.
During the Tokyo Game Show, Hideo Kojima dazzled with a new preview of Death Stranding 2, a live conference with the Japanese voice actors, and even the launch of a new clothing line. However, he also took the time to sit down with IGN colleagues and talk about the state of the game. According to the Japanese developer, he has already set the release date for this project on his calendar, but it won’t be until 2025 when he reveals it.
One would think it is good news that Kojima hinted that Death Stranding 2 is in its final stages of development, but nothing could be further from the truth. As he added, “around 30 or 40% of the game is done“, which leaves in doubt whether the 2025 release window will be a reality or if he simply evaded the question with a randomly thrown percentage.
The game progresses according to “established deadlines”
Either way, and anticipating the doubts of players, Kojima wanted to reassure them: although the title has not even reached half of its development, “there is no reason for concern“. As he added, the fact that it is in such an early stage is due to the great effort of recording all the game dialogue in Japanese, ensuring a localization and performance work on par with its English version.
This task has been crucial to ensure that the title offers an authentic and accessible experience for players worldwide, especially for those from his own country. However, as he reaffirmed before closing his chat with IGN, the development continues to progress steadily and “the team is working to meet the established deadlines“.
Death Stranding 2, announced for the first time during The Game Awards in 2022, will once again feature Norman Reedus as Sam Porter Bridges, Lea Seydoux as Fragile and Troy Baker as Higgs Monaghan. The game will be exclusive to PlayStation 5, although it is expected to take flight shortly after on PC as the first installment did.
