Europe fares very poorly with Marvel VS Capcom Fighting Collection in physical format. We are one of the few to have a half version for Nintendo Switch – MARVEL vs. CAPCOM Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics

Capcom has not forgotten about its classic games. The Japanese giant has not only based its strategy for the last 10 years on the idea of remaking classics like Resident Evil, but has also dared to rescue its great fighting games from the 90s and 2000s. One of these nostalgic releases is Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics, a collection of seven collaborations between Marvel and Capcom that comes with some bad news: the physical version for Nintendo Switch in Europe will not come with a cartridge.

Although Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics is already available in digital format since last week, many were hoping to expand their collection of games in physical format with the versions of the game for Nintendo Switch or PS4 next November. However, on the same day as the game’s digital release, on September 12, a rumor surfaced pointing to the fact that the Nintendo hybrid version would come in a very nice box, but with a code inside. This news, which was a disappointment for Switch players, has been confirmed today.

Capcom has confirmed that the physical edition of Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics for Nintendo Switch in Europe will be a code in a box, instead of a cartridge. “Now available in digital format for Nintendo Switch, PS4, and Steam. In physical format for Switch (code in the box) and PS4 (disc in the box) on November 22,” Capcom’s message on social media reads.

Physical versions in Asia and North America will come with a cartridge

The worst part is that Capcom has not only provided an explanation for the lack of a cartridge in the European version of the game, but the version for the EMEA region (Europe, Middle East, and Africa) will be a half-launch. As Video Game Chronicles adds after contacting the Japanese publisher, the physical versions of Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection on Nintendo Switch for Asia and North America will come with a cartridge, leaving European players surprised and with many doubts.

Capcom’s choice to offer a code instead of a cartridge has generated disappointment among European players who prefer to have a complete physical copy of their games, especially with the fear that digital stores may close in the future, as it happened with the Wii, 3DS, and Wii U stores. Despite the disappointment, the Switch’s region-free nature allows European players to import the North American or Japanese version of the game if they prefer to have a physical cartridge. However, this could involve an additional cost compared to buying the local version.
