If like me you grew up in the 2000s hooked on real-time strategy video games like Age of Empires II, you may remember a proposal with similar mechanics that had the appeal of being able to take control of a faction throughout all of human history. It was called Empire Earth, and it will have its own spiritual successor: Empire Eternal.
Conquer Earth from Prehistory to the Future
Announced a couple of weeks ago by MicroProse, this RTS presents the same attractions as the legendary development by Sierra Entertainment. In other words, giving the player the opportunity to grow their empire from prehistory to a future more akin to sci-fi productions like Command & Conquer. The goal of all this? “To become the dominant empire on Earth by commanding armies, building impenetrable cities, and engaging in exciting tactical battles on land, sea, and air throughout various epochs.”
“Empire Eternal invites you to witness the power of human evolution as you command your civilization on an epic journey through history. Watch as your stone spears evolve into devastating weapons made of bronze, steel, and futuristic technologies that surpass your wildest imagination. Each era of Empire Eternal offers new challenges, achievements, and unique strategies. Master the battlefield with everything from simple equipment to the most advanced weapons ever invented. In this RTS, you not only survive history but you define it forever.”
Empire Eternal doesn’t hide its inspiration from Empire Earth, as well as Age of Empires and even the Civilization series, and according to its developers, EPO Games, it aims to be a fun, epic, and nostalgic RTS that spans the history of humanity and its future. “We want to do it right, and we want everyone to love it as much as we do. A single-player game, for other players.”
The RTS will come with a campaign mode where you can step into the shoes of the most important leaders in history and conquer the world, as well as several multiplayer modes. However, there is no release date at the moment.
