Do you want to earn more money by selling your old phone? A survey confirms which device is most valuable in the second-hand market

Published:

At the beginning of August, we learned that the gap between iPhone and Android is getting wider. In short, more and more users are opting for Apple devices and, as a result, leaving their old Android phones behind. As a result, iOS continues to gain followers while Google’s operating system, despite being the most popular in the market, is seeing more and more users crossing to the other side. And, according to recent survey data, one of the main reasons seems to be on the economic side.

Apple and Samsung lead the list of the most resistant mobile phones of 2024 and are ahead of many surprises

As TechSpot points out in an informative news article, iPhones have a higher resale value than Android devices. Thanks to this, Apple smartphones become a better long-term investment. In fact, 41% of users of the brand sold or traded in their old devices, a figure that drops to 17% in the case of Android. Additionally, we must add that there are more options to sell or trade in iPhones than Android devices, making it easier to sell them.

Android users retain their devices more

However, when it comes to keeping their phones, the situation changes. As the same article indicates, 53% of Android users keep their old devices, a number that drops to 40% for iPhone users. However, the situation is different when it comes to discarded devices: 30% of Android phones compared to 19% of iPhones. Therefore, the survey suggests that monetizing an old Android phone is not profitable, as few are sold or traded in, while iPhones retain their value for longer.

As an additional piece of information, the same article points out that the iPhone 15 Pro Max only lost 18% of its value three months after its release, while the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra lost up to 35% in the same period. In this way, iPhone 15 models lost a resale value of 27.9% in just three months, while the Galaxy S23 series reduced its value to 44.5% in the same period. Thus, according to survey data, if you want to resell your device, it is most advisable to opt for an iPhone instead of an Android phone.
