The growth of companies like Huawei and the various sanctions imposed by the United States on China have caused a 180-degree shift in the Asian country’s view of American technology. As a direct consequence, companies like Microsoft and Apple have experienced a decline in sales that has led them to lose their dominant position. However, Apple itself has managed to reverse the situation after months of effort.
As reported by Reuters in a recent publication, the Ministry of Commerce in the Asian country expressed that China supports Apple’s continued and deeper presence in its market. Wang Wentao, Minister of Commerce, recently met with Tim Cook (Apple’s CEO) to discuss cooperation and presence in China. During the meeting, the Asian region expressed its commitment to continuously optimize the business environment and provide quality services to foreign companies.
China seeks to restore its commercial relations with the United States
Behind this meeting is China’s intention to restore healthy and stable commercial relations with the United States, a situation they aim to achieve through regular exchanges between governments and companies. Apple, as a North American technological giant, plays an important role in the economic relationship between both nations. Consequently, Wang pointed out to Cook that national security concerns can hinder both economic and commercial relations between the two countries.
China has committed to creating a favorable business environment that facilitates the operation of foreign companies like Apple. Additionally, the interest of iPhone creators in expanding in the Chinese market was emphasized, a key country for their global operations. While China seeks to reach out to the United States and, thereby, achieve stable and beneficial commercial and technological exchanges for both, Apple aims to grow in a market that has turned its back on them in recent months.
