Buy a 1,500 euro lens for 6 euros by taking advantage of an error, but unknowingly defrauded a non-profit organization

Published:

On some occasions, the internet is full of stories starring real bargains. Just a few hours ago, we learned about a user who got half a laptop for 56 euros and, after buying the charger, found that it was still functional despite losing the screen. However, today’s story is even more bizarre, as it is about a professional photographer who got a 1,500 euro lens for just 6. But, unfortunately, this stroke of luck is not as positive as he thinks.

On the website Petapixel, the photographer shares his unique story. As he recounts, he occasionally goes to thrift stores to see if he can find any valuable items in them. As part of these searches, he came across a store called Goodwill, a place where he had the opportunity to buy a Canon 50mm f/1.2 L series lens for just 6 euros, well below the usual 1,500 euros it costs. And, therefore, he took the opportunity to boast about his achievement on the internet.

The store provides jobs for people with disabilities

Apparently, he got this bargain because the seller mistook the lens for a cup, a situation more common than many imagine. That’s why he was able to get the item for the mentioned 6 euros, but what this photographer didn’t know is that the Goodwill store specializes in providing job training, employment services, and other community programs to people with disabilities and those who struggle to find employment.

Therefore, what he sold as a bargain was actually an action with a very negative background. Essentially, Goodwill is a non-profit organization that uses its funds, in addition to everything mentioned, to make various donations to the people mentioned. So, even though he got a 1,500 euro lens for just 6, his action cost a lot of money in donations and training as he did not pay the actual price of the product.
