Another Switch emulator condemned to closure. Nintendo reaches an agreement with the owners of Ryujinx and has already started its dismantling – Nintendo Switch

Published:

Nintendo continues fighting against piracy after closing the most famous Switch game emulator, Yuzu, with a lawsuit against the creators last March. More than half a year later, the big N wants another Nintendo Switch title emulator to disappear from the Internet, and in this case we are talking about Ryujinx. Although the closure of Ryujinx has not been officially announced yet, everything points to it after the latest events.

A member of the Ryujinx Discord community has pointed out that the creator of the emulator, gdkchan, has been contacted by Nintendo to offer him an agreement to stop working on the project and remove everything related to the program. This information was shared by the official X/Twitter account of Ryujinx, and it is likely that the emulator will eventually be shut down. So far, all downloads and repositories from GitHub have been removed, indicating that it will disappear in the coming hours.

“Yesterday, gdkchan was contacted by Nintendo and offered an agreement to stop working on the project, delete the organization and all related assets under his control. While we wait for confirmation if he will accept this agreement, the group has been deleted, so I think it’s safe to say what the outcome is. Instead of leaving you with panic and speculation, I decided to write this brief message to provide some closure,” concludes without thanking all the members, developers, and moderators who have contributed to the project.

The differences between the closures of Ryujinx and Yuzu

Although we still have to wait for confirmation from the creator of Ryujinx, the main difference from the Yuzu case is that Nintendo directly closed this emulator after a legal action by the company. They then reached an out-of-court agreement that included the payment of 2.4 million dollars and the complete transfer of the Yuzu domain to Nintendo. It seems that Ryujinx’s fate is sealed, we just have to wait for gdkchan’s official statement.
