A few days ago we learned that OpenAI, the technology firm behind ChatGPT, had secured a total of 6,000 million euros during a recent round of funding. Essentially, the company’s main goal is to develop an AI that can surpass humans in different facets, a situation that led Sam Altman to meet with a multitude of investors from various countries around the world.
However, the amount that OpenAI managed to reach demonstrates that few technologies are capable of achieving the level of popularity that artificial intelligence holds. A few months ago, it was xAI (Elon Musk’s company) that secured a multi-billion dollar agreement to develop artificial intelligence models, but the achievement of the creators of ChatGPT has once again raised alarms. Therefore, investors are once again showing a lot of interest in both AI and everything related to its evolution.
Venture capital funds are interested in AI
As indicated by the Reuters portal in a recent publication, OpenAI reached a valuation of 150,000 million euros and showed the enthusiasm surrounding generative AI. Following the launch of ChatGPT, venture capital funds have shown particular interest in this field, leading several startups to attract funding from various sources. As a result, this sector has experienced a increase in interest in 2024, and as a direct consequence, all companies related to generative AI are in luck.
Thus, Figure AI was the one that started this interest in 2024 when it received just under 650 million euros during a funding round. Following them, other options like Cohere (480 million euros) or Groq (600 million euros) emerged, but the situation began to generate massive interest when xAI was able to secure 5,500 million euros in May of this year. This, combined with the amount OpenAI received to continue evolving their language models, demonstrates that we are dealing with a field that has attracted a multitude of interested investors.
