In the world we currently live in, content creators are authentic celebrities who have incredible mass appeal. As a result, it is not uncommon for brands to approach them to try to benefit from their influence. But what happens when a company decides to bypass collaboration? This is what Marques Brownlee, better known as “MKBHD”, a YouTuber with over 19 million followers, has experienced, being publicly exposed for finding his voice in an ad without consent.
Surprised to Find His Own Voice
The YouTuber himself has shared on his social media how a “dishonest” company had used his voice to advertise a product. “It’s happening. There are real companies that will simply use a copy of my voice created by artificial intelligence to promote their products”. And the worst part is that he claims there are no actions he can take against it. “There are actually no repercussions for this, except for being known as a suspicious and despicable company willing to stoop so low to sell a product.”
Since its appearance in 2022, AI has been creating a series of circumstances that will have to be regulated at some point, as was the case with the Internet. MKBHD is not the only one affected and this is not the first time he has experienced it. But this issue not only affects individuals: just yesterday, we reported that Wikipedia was having trouble with content generated by this tool. It is a situation that affects different areas, sometimes even personal ones.
Unfortunately, this situation does not have much of a solution at the moment other than publicly denouncing what happened. Today it happened to MKBHD, but tomorrow it could be anyone, as voice copy tools are prevalent.
