A Minor Error by Elon Musk’s Team Cost Him 3 Million Euros and Delayed X’s Return in Brazil

Published:

The last few weeks of X in Brazil have been very complex. The social network, formerly known as Twitter, ceased its activity when judge Alexandre de Moraes decreed that, due to the absence of a figure of power and the accumulation of different fines, it was most appropriate to halt operations in the country. However, both Elon Musk and the rest of the team have worked to reverse the situation. Unfortunately, they made a major mistake in doing so.

'We are no longer Twitter'. Elon Musk unsuccessfully tried to avoid a fine for his social network using a very banal argument

Shortly after the conflict erupted, it also affected Starlink and, consequently, Musk saw the situation starting to spiral out of control. The billionaire sought a way to calm the waters by making a payment of 3 million euros which was intended to fix the company’s previous mistakes. The problem? As reported by Reuters in a recent publication, Musk sent the payment of outstanding fines to the wrong bank, causing the decision on the restoration of the social network in the country to be postponed.

X will return to Brazil in the coming days

Such was the tension between both parties that there was even talk of a daily fine that would approach a million euros, but this situation dissipated once negotiations could continue. As Reuters states, the Supreme Court of the country asserts that X paid the fines to the wrong bank, leading to several delays in the process. They demand that the fines be paid correctly, as this is the only pending measure before resuming operations in Brazil.

Therefore, Judge Moraes determined that, once this issue is resolved, the country’s Attorney General will give his opinion on X’s recent requests to restore the platform. However, X’s lawyers claim they did not send the payment to an incorrect account, so they do not see the need to consult the Attorney General before lifting the suspension. Nevertheless, having corrected all the errors requested by the Brazilian justice system has paved the way for X to resume its activity and be operational in Brazil once again.
