A Legendary Saga of Strategy and Science Fiction Prepares to Return… as a Shooter. Jason Schreier Confirms that Blizzard is Working on a StarCraft Spin-Off.

Do you remember Starcraft: Ghost? That video game, which was in development at the beginning of the century, was supposed to take the Blizzard strategy and science fiction series to a new genre, that of third-person action. The project soon fell out of the plans of the parents of Overwatch, but we may soon finally see Terran, Protoss, and Zergs fighting outside of an RTS.

This is not just a random rumor on social media, but information from one of the industry’s most well-connected journalists, Jason Schreier, who in a recent talk stated that Blizzard is working on a spin-off of the beloved series. While we will have to wait for the publication of his book, Play Nice: The Rise, Fall, and Future of Blizzard Entertainment, to know the more specific details of the video game, the insider did drop a couple of hints about the title.

It is stated that a StarCraft shooter has been in incubation since early this year, with a small team led by Far Cry veteran Dan Hay involved. As for whether this would be a multiplayer or single-player approach, there is no information. Since the project is still in a very early stage of conception, we cannot rule out the possibility that the video game may not come to fruition.

It is not the first time in recent years that Blizzard has tried to re-launch StarCraft as a shooter. Schreier reported a few months ago how the company, now owned by Microsoft, canceled Ares, which aimed to invite players to enjoy a kind of Battlefield in the StarCraft universe. Let’s keep our fingers crossed that everything goes well with this new attempt.

StarCraft will land on Game Pass soon

Meanwhile, StarCraft was in the news yesterday with Microsoft’s announcement that both StarCraft Remastered and StarCraft II: Campaign Collection will be available at no extra cost on Game Pass starting this month of November. It is a normal move aimed at further growth on PC, but it’s hard not to be excited about what might be behind this action.

In 3DJuegos | Blizzard’s co-founder left the company because he was tired of Bobby Kotick. He tried to curb Activision’s influence, but grew tired of fighting.
