Vanillaware is one of those companies worth keeping a close eye on. After winning over thousands of players with 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim, the team is back with a Unicorn Overlord that, as it is now demonstrated, has also proven to be a great success for Atlus. According to the latest information shared by the creators, this fantasy JRPG with real-time strategy has already sold one million units worldwide.
This milestone has been shared through the official Atlus account on X and has been accompanied by a new commemorative illustration by Takafumi Noma, director and character designer of Unicorn Overlord. In addition, the distributor also sends a general thank you to all players who have contributed to the success of the JRPG in various parts of the world.
It’s not surprising to know that Unicorn Overlord has achieved a great sales figure; its fantastic premise, presented with role-playing and real-time strategy mechanics, has captivated a good number of genre fans. Throughout the game, Vanillaware puts players in the role of Alain, the heir to the throne of a medieval kingdom that has been usurped by a bloodthirsty empire. Managing the resistance, users must free the world from the Emperor Galerius’ influence by recruiting dozens of characters and devising combat tactics.
Vanillaware is already looking for another success
The development of Unicorn Overlord has not been easy. The George Kamitani studio ran out of money on several occasions, one of them just before the title’s release, and almost bankrupted the company. However, considering the success of this JRPG, the developers have already started working on a new project that promises to be an exciting RPG with an unforgettable adventure.
