After years of speculation, the Thunderbolts movie can finally explain who has taken over the Avengers Tower in the Marvel Cinematic Universe

Published:

Since the UCM Marvel became a global phenomenon, one of the great mysteries that has kept fans theorizing for years is the fate of the iconic Avengers Tower. This legendary building, originally known as the Stark Tower, has played a crucial role in several movies in the franchise. However, since its last appearance in Spider-Man: Homecoming, the question of who bought the skyscraper after its sale has been a mystery without an answer. Now, it seems, the secret could finally be revealed in the upcoming Thunderbolts, who is the new owner of the Avengers Tower?

The mystery of the Avengers Tower

The Avengers Tower, located in the heart of New York City, was originally built by Tony Stark as the Stark Tower, a symbol of his business and technological power. Later, the building would become the headquarters of the Avengers, the epicenter of many of the most epic battles in the MCU, such as the Chitauri invasion in The Avengers.

However, after the events of Captain America: Civil War and the establishment of a new Avengers base in upstate New York, the tower was sold. In Spider-Man: Homecoming, Happy Hogan casually mentions that the building no longer belongs to Stark Industries, but the buyer is never revealed. This brief reference sparked years of theories. Who had bought the Avengers Tower? The theories have been many: Would it be the millionaire Norman Osborn, who in the comics owns his own iconic building in New York, the Oscorp Tower? Or perhaps it would be Wilson Fisk, the notorious Kingpin? Many of us have long been betting on a cinematic version of the Baxter Building, the headquarters of The Fantastic Four.

New clues in the Thunderbolts trailer

Now, in the new Thunderbolts trailer, it seems to give us clear clues about its owner. In the final seconds of the trailer, we can see a scene that has alerted fans: the members of the Thunderbolts team (composed of characters like Yelena Belova, Bucky Barnes, and Red Guardian) are gathered in what many believe is the interior of the renovated Avengers Tower. The floor-to-ceiling windows and the views of Manhattan match the images we have seen of the building in previous MCU films.

The intriguing part is the presence of Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (played by Julia Louis-Dreyfus), who seems to be assembling the team at this new headquarters. Val, a character who has been operating in the shadows since The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, has proven to be a new key figure in the MCU after the formation of this new group of antiheroes. Her presence in the Avengers Tower has led many to believe that she is the new owner.

On the other hand, it is worth mentioning that one of the most widespread rumors is that Thunderbolts is not just a movie about a group of redeemed villains, but it is the introduction of the Dark Avengers, a group of heroes with a more flexible moral code led by Val. Is that the true meaning of the asterisk in the Thunderbolts title recently added by Disney?

With the premiere of Thunderbolts on April 30, 2025, fans won’t have to wait much longer for definitive answers. Until then, fans can continue to enjoy the vast catalog of Marvel Studios movies on Disney+, where each piece of the puzzle continues to take shape.
