The last few months of Helldivers 2 have been a rollercoaster. The title went from controversy with PlayStation Network accounts to stability and crisis again when its first major content expansion was a disappointment for most players. Many thought it was impossible to recover after two such significant setbacks, especially since they had been so close to each other. However, Arrowhead Game Studios has managed to turn the situation around.
An update that has changed the future of Helldivers 2
The Update 01.001.007 of Helldivers 2 has been the first part of the ambitious rescue plan that Arrowhead Game Studios is preparing for its flagship video game. The content consisted of about 150 balance adjustments and 100 bug fixes with a simple but ambitious idea: to make the game more fun. To achieve this, the power of many weapons and devices was increased with the idea of creating more strategic variety and, ultimately, allowing players to customize their experience a bit more.
Although it hasn’t been too long since the ‘update’ arrived, it can already be said that Arrowhead’s plan has been successful. The update of Helldivers 2 made the video game reach its highest peak of simultaneous users in the summer, reaching up to 68,380 simultaneous gaming sessions on Steam (via SteamDB). In addition, the reviews have also been favorable. Taking into account the Valve store, of the 1,630 reviews published from the update until the time of writing this piece, 86% are positive.
Another interesting detail regarding the reviews is that many users have modified their review on Steam from negative to positive. Valve does not show this data, but the mentioned SteamDB does. Helldivers 2 had 641,736 positive opinions and 261,507 negative ones the day before the update. However, currently it has 647,194 positive votes (+8.5%) and ‘only’ 257,056 negatives (-1.8%). In this sense, the community is making an interesting use of this tool.
It is important to remember that the situation of Helldivers 2 is not completely resolved. The developers have managed to turn the game around, but they are still pending to continue adding updates. It also remains to be seen how the sharp turn they had to take to release these emergency patches will affect future content. These issues will be left for the future. The important thing now is that Arrowhead Game Studios has the opportunity to make up for lost time.
