There are many things that made the announcement of Gears of War: E-Day special. Presented with a tremendously emotional trailer, the game arrives with the responsibility of reviving a series that has been on hiatus for five years and counting. To top it off, that ‘E-Day’ is a reference to what is probably the most important event in the saga’s lore. A story that all fans wanted to see turned into a video game and that, as we have learned thanks to one of the most important developers in the franchise’s history, was also a dream for the creators since 2006.
The most anticipated game of Gears of War
The story was told by Rod Fergusson in an interview with VGC. The current general manager of Diablo 4, who was involved in the development of the Gears of War saga from its inception until 2020 in executive positions, first stated how he felt about the new E-Day: “There have been 9 Gears of War and I have been involved in all of them. For 15 years of my career, I was working on the saga. It was a strange feeling at first to know that there would be a new project and that I wouldn’t be involved”. It is important to note that, although now Blizzard is part of Microsoft, he left long before the acquisition.
However, the most interesting thing is that he confirmed the importance that all the veterans of the franchise give to Gears of War: E-Day. “When we launched the first Gears for Xbox 360 in 2006, we felt that we couldn’t tell the story of ‘E-Day’ because we didn’t have the technology or the power needed to do justice to that level of invasion. I’m very excited about what The Coalition is doing. I hope they can convey that feeling of what it means to have an entire city, or basically a world, being taken over by the Locust. I think it can be really cool”.
Ultimately, Fergusson has expressed his confidence in the development team. “I adore the whole team. I love them and I’m excited to see what they are going to do. I know I will enjoy the game. The team is fantastic”. The big question, however, is when we will all be able to enjoy the new installment of the iconic Xbox saga. Microsoft still has us waiting for new information and has not revealed the release date of Gears of War: E-Day.
