Although the Spanish video game industry is far from being in a bad situation, looking back, we come across the so-called “Golden Age of Spanish Software“, a period of major projects and developments that challenged the limitations of the time, establishing Spain as a key player in the European video game industry. Now it’s time to go back to the past with Army Moves Overdrive, a reboot of the legendary 1986 title developed by Dinamic Software, which will be available for PC, PS5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch, and mobile devices in 2025.

Army Moves was one of the most successful titles of its time, not only in Spain but also in Europe and United States, catching the attention of major companies like Ocean Software, one of the most important developers and publishers of the 1980s in Europe. The game received very favorable reviews at the time, with specialized publications like Computer & Videogames giving it a perfect rating, despite the difficulty of the original game, which was available on platforms like ZX Spectrum, Commodore 64, and Amiga.

A reboot with updated graphics and gameplay

A lot of time has passed since then, a whopping 38 years since Víctor Ruiz’s game was released, but nostalgia plays a crucial role in our present as gamers. That’s why the Valencian studio Dunwich wanted to revive it, adapting it to current standards. In this context, Army Moves Overdrive not only aims to be a sequel but a modern update of the original, maintaining the essence of the classic but adapting it to the expectations of today’s gamers.

With a renewed and more detailed visual style, the game promises to offer an experience that combines nostalgia with contemporary elements, respecting the legacy of the game that captivated millions of players in the 80s. Additionally, the game will bring back the side-scrolling movement and 2D environments, but with much more depth and dynamism to the gameplay sequences, to appeal to both fans of the original and a new generation of players.

The reboot, Army Moves Overdrive, promises to reach all current platforms, including PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and mobile devices, as well as streaming services like Amazon Luna and Netflix. The release date is scheduled for some time in 2025, marking the return of a true classic that will come back to life almost 40 years after its debut. If you want to try it out earlier, the game will be featured at IndieDEV Days, an event taking place in Barcelona from September 27 to 29.
