Electronic Arts has been cooking up the new Battlefield game for quite some time, which they revealed additional details about just yesterday. It was mentioned that Battlefield aims to make a strong comeback with its classic formula, and they assured that they have learned from past mistakes to “regain the trust” of the community after Battlefield 2042. With all of this in mind, more updates have been published regarding what we can expect with the next big shooter arriving in 2025.
The franchise shooter general manager, Byron Beede, confirmed in a presentation at EA Investor Day 2024 that the next Battlefield is being developed by up to 4 studios, each working on different aspects of the FPS. DICE is “leading the way” in the multiplayer mode, with support from Criterion Games (known for the Burnout and Need for Speed games) assisting with the campaign and online aspects.
Two other teams are also involved. One of them is EA Motive, the creators of Dead Space Remake and also responsible for the Iron Man game, focusing on the next Battlefield’s Campaign Mode. Lastly, we have Ripple Effect, working on a completely new gameplay mode for the saga. Speculation suggests it could be a battle royale mode connected to the main game, following a similar formula to Warzone.
Testing Program Announced for Battlefield
Beede notes that this is a highly ambitious Battlefield game. “We are building a connected universe set in the modern era, full of Battlefield experiences for players, all built with our unique AND,” explains the creative, who also shares some good news. “We have been playing the game almost daily for over a year. In addition to internal testing cycles, we are already conducting player tests and plan to introduce a new community-driven large-scale testing program early next year,” he reveals (via VGC).
In the coming weeks, more details will be provided about this community-focused testing program, although it seems that Electronic Arts is basing itself on 4 basic principles to create this new Battlefield game: All-out war, epic scale, massive destruction, and high-intensity action.
