After years of decline, Battlefield wants to come back strong. EA reveals the first details of the new installment and promises to “regain the trust” of the community – Battlefield 2042.

Three years after the release of its last installment, a new game from the Battlefield saga is beginning to take shape on the horizon. Electronic Arts has spoken out again regarding the return of its war franchise, revealing some very interesting details about how the project that will succeed Battlefield 2042 is progressing. In this sense, there seems to be good news. Development has been in full swing since the beginning of this year, the team is conducting playable tests every week, and some of the most criticized elements of the previous game will disappear.

First details of the new Battlefield

The information has been confirmed in a conversation with IGN with Vince Zampella, Executive Vice President of Electronic Arts. Through it, we have learned that the video game takes place in a modern era similar to that of Battlefield 3 or Battlefield 4. For the EA executive, the saga peaked with these two installments. In this sense, they wanted to draw inspiration from them to create a game capable of once again elevating the franchise to its former levels of popularity. Especially after the last two games (Battlefield 5 and 2042) disappointed at launch and had to be rescued through updates.

Two other interesting details that Electronic Arts has confirmed about the new Battlefield are that it will focus on 64-player matches and will leave behind specialists to return to the traditional class system. “I wasn’t there when 2042 was made. I don’t know what the reasoning was, but for me, what happened is that the team wanted to try something new. You have to applaud that effort. Not everyone liked it, but you have to try things. It didn’t work. It didn’t fit. Specialists will not return. Classes are part of the Battlefield identity and we are going back to that,” explained Zampella.

Vince Zampella has also mentioned the great promise of the Electronic Arts CEO, who stated that this was one of the most ambitious projects in its history: “We are definitely making a bigger bet on the saga. We want to expand what Battlefield is. We have to have the core of our community, they know what they want. We have to earn their trust again and bring them back to our side. Then it’s about expanding and getting more players to join this universe and see what we can do. We want, when they look for a different experience, they don’t have to leave the game. You can experience more things within this universe, so we are expanding our offering.”

“Next year we will announce a program to increase community participation [in the development of the new Battlefield], because that is the core of what we have to do: get the community back on our side and regain their trust. I think we are in a good place. Is it difficult? Of course, but otherwise it wouldn’t be fun,” Zampella concluded. Regarding other topics of conversation, such as a hypothetical Switch 2 or PS5 Pro, he didn’t want to comment at this time.
