United States Confirms it has China in its Sights and is Already Using Generative AI for Mass Surveillance

Published:

Artificial intelligence has become the most popular sector in the tech industry following the impact of tools like ChatGPT. The OpenAI conversational bot is, for more than 200 million weekly users, a very useful ally for tasks such as summarizing, translating, or solving mathematical problems. However, the reach of AI has already led to numerous politicians and government institutions wanting to take advantage of its characteristics.

Romantic chatbots have become the major asset of artificial intelligence, but are also loaded with red flags

In the past, we reported that Javier Milei had been inspired by the movie Minority Report to introduce a measure against crime in Argentina, but he is not the only leader who has carried out this type of maneuvers. As indicated by the portal TechSpot in a recent publication, CIA and MI6 have used AI to modernize their espionage operations. And, despite the fact that artificial intelligence may generate false or pre-fabricated responses, both agencies see it as a very valuable tool.

A collaboration that has extended for almost 100 years

To commemorate this advancement, Bill Burns (CIA Director) and Richard Moore (MI6 Chief) issued a joint article celebrating the special collaboration between both agencies, an agreement that has been active since 1949 and is currently more focused on the current technological context. And, in addition to espionage, they are also using AI models to ensure that sensitive operations are secure from external threats.

In this way, CIA and MI6 have adopted cloud technologies and collaborate with private companies to enhance their capabilities. Thus, this practice and that of other countries like Russia, Ukraine, or China demonstrate that the use of modern technology is increasingly impacting on wartime conflicts. In fact, the main concern for the agencies is China, as this region is considered the greatest geopolitical and informational challenge of the 21st century. Therefore, maintaining a technological advantage is crucial for the future of espionage, and generative AI plays a crucial role in this.
