Slork: the Shark-Man Inspired by DOTA 2, Eyes New Deadlock Character – Valve’s Deadlock

Published:

Even though for weeks it was an unknown game, Deadlock is taking Steam by storm. Valve’s MOBA with a touch of hero shooter has surprised everyone, and while its access is limited to invitations, nothing prevents these from flying high and reaching more players. Now, as we sit and wait to see how the new game from the makers of Steam evolves, some have discovered files of a new character for the game: Slork, a creature resembling a shark humanoid.

Not all details about Slork are known yet, in fact, its current design seems to be unfinished, but the Deadlock Intel Twitter account has broken down some of its main abilities, promising an aggressive and strategic gameplay style. Among its powers, Riptide sends a wave that knocks down enemies and bounces off walls, while Chomp allows it to pounce on its rivals and bite them ferociously. Additionally, Deep’s Embrace seems to give it a water shield for protection, and Ambush Predator turns it into a relentless hunter capable of ambushing multiple targets at once.

Some players have quickly noticed the resemblance of Slork to Slark, a hero from DOTA 2, another game developed by Valve. Both characters not only share a similar appearance with their shark head, but also have abilities and gameplay styles that resemble the characteristic movements of Slark. In fact, the Deadlock Intel account jokingly tweeted about this similarity, saying: “Close enough, welcome back, Slark,” and attached an image of the hero from DOTA 2.

Despite the excitement generated by the discovery, it is unclear if Valve will finalize the development of Slork and include it in the official game release, especially considering that Deadlock is a game that, essentially, is in beta phase and does not represent the final outcome. Therefore, we must consider the possibility that the character may remain in the development limbo of Deadlock. However, the most curious players can already try this unfinished version of Slork in the game’s sandbox mode, by activating the command console and selecting “hero_slork.”

Valve's biggest failure is a game that died in just four months and that no one remembers. Artifact was the 'memento mori' of the creators of Steam

While the future of Slork is uncertain, its discovery has sparked interest in Deadlock and raised expectations about the character’s evolution. The community is eager to see if this human-shark will reach its final version and become a complete playable hero, or if it will remain as a curious project within the game.

Valve halts a Deadlock statistics page

Valve has started hiding information about its new game “Deadlock” from players, specifically limiting access to statistics on tracking websites like TrackLock. This decision aims to improve the results of the closed beta phase, allowing players to experience without being influenced by external data that optimize decision-making. The American team considers this testing phase crucial to observe how players intuitively interact and make mistakes, which helps improve the game’s design before its official release.

In 3DJuegos | A week ago it didn’t officially exist, but now it’s sweeping Steam. The testing phase of Deadlock surpasses the barrier of 100,000 simultaneous users.
