Minecraft finally arrives to current generation Sony consoles, and no, it’s not a mistake. With free and native enhancements, the game debuts on PS5 – Minecraft

Published:

Over 10 years ago, Mojang released a game that changed the industry forever. Minecraft debuted in 2011 with a concept as simple as a procedural world full of cubes, which ended up becoming the best-selling game in history. However, with four years of the current console generation behind it, there was no native version of Minecraft on PlayStation, at least until today. The vast world of Mojang arrives on PS5 with a free version if you migrate from PS4.

The Xbox team had been exploring a possible native version for the current generation of Japanese consoles for months. While an update was released for Xbox versions in 2023, Mojang confirmed last summer that the version for PlayStation would arrive in the middle of the generation.

This is what Minecraft offers on PS5

Actually, it is not a version much different from the one already known on consoles. Minecraft on PS5 offers greater rendering distance, allowing players to see further in their worlds, maintaining a 60 FPS rate and achieving native 4K resolution. This is an improvement compared to the PS4 Pro version, which ran at 2160p scaled. Additionally, cross-play is enabled to enjoy with friends on different platforms.

Alongside the launch on PS5, Minecraft has also introduced the “Bundles of Bravery,” which bring several novelties for Bedrock edition players. Among these, the arrival of Hardcore mode stands out, a mode that increases the difficulty to the highest level and in which players only have one life. If you fall in combat or suffer a fatal fall, there is no possibility of respawn. Furthermore, cross-play is enabled to play with friends on PS5, PS4, Xbox, or PC. Forget 'Minecraft 2'. There's a new survival sandbox in the works by the authors of the console ports, but it's forging its own path

Finally, even though a paid version for 19.99 euros has been released for new players, users who already own Minecraft: Bedrock Edition on PS4 can download the PS5 version at no additional cost. To do this, simply access the PlayStation Store from the PS5 console and claim the digital copy. For those with the disc version of Minecraft for PS4, they only need to insert the disc into the PS5 console to enjoy the update.
