If you’ve played Red Dead Redemption 2 extensively, you’ve likely developed a curious fondness for the dialogues. You’ve also probably spent a lot of time listening carefully to the characters as you immerse yourself in the vast world of the Wild West. What you may not have imagined is that someone has taken this fondness to a completely new level. A player has dedicated a year and a month of their life to listening to all the game’s dialogues.
A long and quality work
Rockstar produced over half a million lines of dialogue for the game, and the player known as the user known as Snow_Guard has taken on the titanic task of compiling them all into a gigantic 627-page document that you can read online. This monumental effort not only highlights the passion of the gaming community but also the dedication that Rockstar Games put into bringing the characters of Red Dead Redemption 2 to life.
Rockstar spared no details, and not only stands out for the volume of work generated but also for its quality, creating not only memorable characters like Arthur Morgan or John Marston, but also a world where even occasional enemies have something interesting to say. A clear example of this is a nighttime conversation between the Lemoyne Raiders, where they debate about their place in the West and the inevitable arrival of modernity, which could make the player surprised by the similarities between their own gang and their enemies.
Snow_Guard’s work not only required time but also a great deal of patience and dedication. According to a comment on Reddit, it took over a year to complete this feat, during which he compiled all the main dialogues of Arthur and John’s adventures, as well as other events that many players may have overlooked. Moreover, it is not just about copying the text lines, as many of the interactions in the game vary depending on the context. For example, Arthur may speak differently to a character depending on the distance at which he is, adding another layer of complexity to the immersion.
For the curious ones, this monumental compilation work is available online. If you’re brave enough, you can accompany Snow_Guard on his journey through the West, with 107 complete chapters detailing every important interaction in the story of the Van Der Linde gang. However, you will need some time, food, chewing tobacco, and probably a good whiskey to survive the experience.
