A gamer seeks to cool his Gaming PC to prevent high temperatures and uses the worst option of all by opting for a copper block.

Refrigeration is one of the most important factors when building a Gaming PC. Whether through ventilation or liquid options, many users seek to ensure the performance of their equipment through these options. However, some of them opt for rather unconventional formulas, and that’s why we’ve come across stories as curious as that of the submerged Gaming PC to control temperature spikes.

However, as reported by the German portal Mein-MMO in a recent publication, not all experiments of this kind end happily. To try to cool his RTX 3080, a player chose to use a massive copper block instead of a conventional cooling system. In this way, his plan was to passively cool both the GPU and the CPU (a Ryzen 7600X) thanks to a copper block covering the main components. However, as many users warned him, this idea had a serious problem: effective heat dissipation.

Copper Could Retain Heat

Unfortunately, it is very likely that copper retains heat and does not dissipate it properly, a situation that would lead to temperature spikes and unsatisfactory performance. Therefore, some recommended designing a custom system and opting for other options such as using copper tubes for better heat dissipation, as this option is more efficient than using a solid block. In fact, several users pointed out that using a massive block would be closer to a radiator than an efficient cooler, as there is not adequate circulation to remove the heat.

Additionally, they also suggested other alternatives such as using a mineral oil cooling system, a maneuver that many enthusiasts already use for its high thermal conductivity. However, it requires considerably more maintenance compared to air or water cooling systems, which is why it is not very practical for many users. For that reason, it is ideal to use traditional cooling systems, as they ensure proper use and do not pose many problems for users.
