I doubt you’ve been hunting for games lately, because we still have quite a few fresh releases from early October. But if for some reason you haven’t gotten hooked on anything for the weekend, you’ll be glad to know that between the 14th and 20th of this month, the industry still had enough momentum to give us some alternatives to choose from, catering to almost every taste.
Pay attention to the news from CitizenCon 2954 on October 19th
What can we expect this time? Well, notably, the MMO New World has been relaunched under the codename “Aeternum,” which on PC can be summarized as a major graphics update and new free content. It is having an interesting impact on Steam, and you also have a few days to play the time sink that is Europa Universalis 4 at no additional cost. Also, keep an eye on the CitizenCon 2954 because there may be some very interesting announcements about Star Citizen. You can watch it live on Twitch.
New Games
Neva (15/10)
The creators of Gris are back with another national product that captivates with powerful setting and elements of platforming and combat. On Steam, it has garnered an impressive 96% of positive reviews, as well as a tirelessly dedicated community determined to interact with the deer-dog that accompanies us on this short and emotional journey.
New World: Aeternum (15/10)
As mentioned earlier, New World has decided that its original 2021 release is too far behind, and it has been revamped. There are now console versions available, meaning you can play with new friends through cross-play; there are also several debut conveniences, swimming mechanics, optimizations with DirectX 12, improved controller support, cinematics, and (for veterans) new PvP zones and a meticulously crafted 10-man raid. Perhaps this will lead to better expansions in the future.
Passageway of the Ancients (16/10)
Hold on: what you have in front of you is a C-RPG, yes, but this is not Baldur’s Gate 3. This is for nostalgic and discerning players, lovers of classics; of Neverwinter, Sacred, or the early Fallout games from Interplay. If you are among them, maybe this is for you. Otherwise, there are much more mainstream alternatives to choose from. But it’s always good to have something so specific on your radar, right?
A Quiet Place: the Road Ahead (17/10)
Halloween is approaching, and with it, dozens or hundreds of new horror games are entering Steam like elephants in a china shop. This one has arrived a bit earlier than the date, but it doesn’t look bad: it’s a single-player survival horror based on the film of the same name, A Quiet Place (2018). If you haven’t seen it, I’ll tell you that it’s full of dangerous creatures that hunt solely by sound. So: flashlights, good; running, bad.
MechWarriors 5: Clans (17/10)
If you like mech games (I greet you, comrade), you will recognize this installment as a rather curious portion of the MechWarriors universe, the most realistic and grounded Western offering in the genre. For everyone else: this mixes simulation, strategy, and action in a series of individual or cooperative battles featuring the Smoke Jaguar Clan.
Citadelum (17/10)
A city-builder set in Ancient Rome, which not only gives you free rein to customize the city but also puts you in charge of its armies. A dream come true for management fans, with initial reviews pointing to a very positive reception: an 88% thumbs up, just like (or not) the real Caesar would do.
Free Weekend
Europa Universalis IV
Without straying too far from the theme, we have a well-established strategy game that is free to play until October 23 at 7:00 PM (Peninsular Spain time). This is how Paradox celebrates the new version of the base game, which now includes a couple of contents that were previously separate DLCs; and naturally, there are also discounts for all the additional content you may want to add. For illustrative purposes, on Steam I see that the complete bundle has dropped from 320 euros to just over 40.
