While Destiny 2 debuted the highly anticipated expansion The Final Shape last June, followed by three significant updates in the following months, the duo of Bungie and NetEase Games surprised many by announcing Destiny: Rising, the expansion of the IP to mobile devices. Far from being a port of a previous game, this is a new project exclusive to iOS and Android devices that has generated anticipation, doubts, and an important question: will it come to PC? NetEase has addressed this question.
This is far from a minor project, as it seems the Chinese company wants to make the most of what the Destiny universe can offer on mobile devices, reaching a new audience while also encouraging veterans to expand to their phones to continue playing the Bungie IP. However, similar to the announcement of Diablo: Immortal and despite criticisms for being a mobile-only game, many have wondered if, at some point, the game will be playable on PC, a platform much more FPS-friendly than mobile.
NetEase’s response came through the official game support account, called “Destiny: Rising Helper”, on Discord, where they mentioned that optimization for mobile devices is still in development and that, in future stages, they may suggest improving compatibility with open-source PC Android emulators. “We will suggest to the developers to enhance and broaden compatibility with PC emulators based on community feedback, although for now we cannot say anything about it,” the studio added. This statement has been well received by players, who see it as an opportunity to play the title on a larger screen, despite there not yet being confirmation of a dedicated client for PC.
Osiris could be a playable character in Destiny: Rising
Another exciting aspect of the announcement is the possible appearance of Osiris, one of the most iconic characters in the Destiny universe, as a playable hero in Destiny: Rising. Although NetEase did not give a clear answer, their use of a cryptic two-eyed emoji in response to a fan’s question has fueled speculation about his inclusion in the game. This detail has further increased anticipation for the first closed alpha test of the game, which will begin on November 1, 2024.
At the moment, the first closed alpha will be available only to players in the United States and Canada, generating excitement in these territories and some disappointment in Europe and Asia. However, the international Destiny community is also eager to learn more about the development of Destiny: Rising, so it is expected that we will see more tests in the coming months.
