2K just announced a new game releasing this Friday, but only for NBA 2K25 users – NBA 2K25

Several very relevant video games started as a small hobby of some developers from large studios. The latest example of this is what happened with Visual Concepts, specifically with Visual Concepts South, the creators of the racing title released in May of last year, LEGO 2K Drive. Gravity Ball has just been unveiled and will be released on the upcoming Friday, October 18th.

The announcement has been made through the usual 2K channels, where it is defined as “a combination of American gladiators, futuristic basketball, and paintball”, and details about its unique release are provided. Gravity Ball will be released as a game within a game, as despite not having much to do with NBA 2K, it will be a paid DLC accessible from the career mode of this year’s sports simulator.

Their relationship doesn’t end there, as playing Gravity Ball will count towards unlocking VC, the currency of NBA 2K, as well as counting towards providing experience for the current season. The price, $7.99, enables the location within The City of the MyCareer mode and allows you to compete in its 3-on-3 and 5-on-5 modes, in addition to benefiting from the aforementioned bonuses.

The story of its development and release is told by Greg Thomas, President of Visual Concepts: “What began as an exciting project from the talented team at Lego 2K Drive in VC South (who also developed The Track for NBA 2K25) quickly turned into the game we all turned to when we wanted to challenge each other in the studio. I like to think of Gravity Ball as a combination of American gladiators, futuristic basketball, and paintball. Pure chaos outside the norm. We had a lot of fun playing amongst ourselves and needed to find a way to share it.”

I thought it was one of the nicest surprises of the year until I opened the LEGO 2K Drive microtransactions store

After the success of Rocket League, it is true that sports simulators based on fictional disciplines are not in good health. Roller Champions by Ubisoft is the latest example of this, but we could also mention Knockout City by Electronic Arts. We will find out on October 18th with Gravity Ball.
