Lasting less than two hours, it is the most viewed movie in the history of Apple TV+, starring George Clooney and Brad Pitt. Wolfs is truly entertaining

After spending a good part of the last decade linked to Sony and Marvel Studios, I was interested in seeing what Jon Watts was capable of taking a break from Spider-Man. That’s why when I found out he had released a movie on Apple TV+ with none other than Brad Pitt and George Clooney as protagonists, I couldn’t resist giving it a shot. The result? Wolfs is an incredibly fun action thriller, increasingly rare on screen, that is already worthy of being the most-watched movie in the history of its platform.

Intrigue, humor, and action

I won’t deceive you, Wolfs is unlikely to become a cult classic for audiences one day, but it does have enough elements to not have any issues giving it my approval and encouraging you to consider it any day you’re looking for a simple story, with a hint of intrigue, that doesn’t take itself too seriously and allows its actors to shine on screen once again. Because yes, most likely this film without Pitt and Clooney would have gone unnoticed. In fact, it probably wouldn’t exist.

In fact, the concept behind Wolfs reminds me of the excellent Bullet Train by David Leitch where five hitmen, including Brad Pitt, coincide on the same train and everything becomes a mess of who knows how it will end. I imagine someone watching this film from just a couple of years ago thought they could replicate that idea, but changing hitmen for “fixers”, and keeping an actor who proved to be very good at this type of role. And, honestly, it works, it’s entertaining. Of course, with some differences.

The problem arises when you have to develop this premise of two lone wolves forced to put aside their egos and come together for a common goal. That’s when the story starts to fall apart for me. But its popcorn nature, being a quick consumption movie, of the “seen it, don’t remember it” type, I think avoids this becoming a major issue capable of taking you out of the viewing experience. There are enough comedic moments and twists in its footage to never bore you, and that’s why Wolfs has made history on Apple TV+.

In Wolfs, we follow the story of two rival “fixers” who are called to cover up the mistake of a district attorney in New York, something that theoretically should be easy to resolve given their experience in this field, but which gets complicated as each of its 117-minute runtime progresses. I won’t say more to not spoil your viewing experience. Wolfs landed on Apple TV+ on September 20 without having previously been in theaters, which may reflect a lack of confidence from the streamer in its potential box office success. My opinion? It had potential.
