Activision has made Call of Duty a safer place. The company boasts of significantly reducing player toxicity with an AI – Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (2023)

In the Call of Duty saga, war is not only fought in multiplayer matches, but there is also a need to combat toxicity in voice channels. If you’ve played Activision’s online FPS shooters, you’ll know that you can easily come across shouting, insults, or offensive remarks towards you or anyone else. However, it seems that these problems are gradually decreasing thanks to an artificial intelligence program that Activision has implemented for months.

Do you remember a year ago when we published that Activision wanted to expel toxic players from Call of Duty using AI? Well, we now have the first results after several months of use, and everything indicates that the ToxMod program has managed to reduce toxicity in the voice chat of Call of Duty by up to 43% since January 2024. This software acts as an invisible moderator that detects offensive language and inappropriate behaviors, preventing problematic players from repeating their harmful actions, as reported on their blog.

Activision finally takes seriously the 'biggest' problem in Call of Duty. There will be significant improvements before Black Ops 6 to reduce disk space

The special feature of ToxMod is that it can interpret voice tone, distinguishing between intensity, jokes, or malicious comments. Thanks to this, it has been able to reduce recidivism by 67% among the most problematic players in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone. Activision is aware that it is a necessary evil that needs to be eradicated, as the community also does not like an AI listening to their conversations.

Activision has reduced the toxicity of Call of Duty

“Since we implemented an improvement in the application of voice chat in June 2024, Call of Duty has experienced a combined 67% reduction in recidivism in voice chat-related infractions in Modern Warfare 3 and Call of Duty Warzone. In July 2024, 80% of players who received a penalty for voice chat infringes since launch did not reoffend. Exposure to annoying voice chat continues to decrease by 43% since January 2024,” Activision stated (via PC Gamer).
