Maps of Zelda Echoes of Wisdom and A Link to the Past overlapped, and everything fits – The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom

Published:

Nintendo arrives at the end of the year with all guns blazing. Mario Party Jamboree, Mario and Luigi Brotherly Connection, and, above all, the recently released The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom are its spearheads for the Christmas campaign. The first Zelda game starring Zelda herself is being well received by both critics and the public for the originality of its proposal: creating replicas of objects and enemies that we encounter to overcome the challenges that Grezzo has prepared for us.

But, as is tradition with every game in the series, fans of the Hyrule lore are tracking every detail that could provide some information about the proposed story. This involves placing Echoes of Wisdom temporally and physically within the continuity of The Legend of Zelda. The first part is sparking discussion, relating to the Oracle duology and A Link Between Worlds; but the second is clearer… And even more so after what the community has done.

Even with the first trailer and the cover image we have (which was the one that closed the same), more than one of us saw the geographical similarities with A Link to the Past. Players, now that they have access to the complete map of Echoes of Wisdom, have carried out a simple experiment: overlaying the map of the original SNES title with that of the princess Zelda’s adventure.

The surprise is practically non-existent, but it is interesting to see it in an image. The two maps overlap almost perfectly, allowing Echoes of Wisdom to expand its own to accommodate Gorons, Gerudo, Zora, and Dekus in the outdoor areas; as Rebecca Stone explains in the tweet above. But the similarities are found in iconic elements such as the location of the cemetery, the church, or the hill where Link’s house was (although Link now lives elsewhere).

Even the changes, which exist, make sense. Kakariko is in another place, giving way to ruins; as if some tragedy had occurred, while there are small adjustments to make room for the mechanics specific to Echoes of Wisdom in the Palace or in ruins like those of the swamp.

The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom has impressed us a lot, and our colleague Rubén Márquez commented the following in the review where he recommended it: “Its reimagining of the classic style of the franchise, which keeps dungeons and final bosses waiting to be overcome, becomes here a toy that, thanks to the copies of all kinds of objects and enemies that Zelda can amass, you never tire of.”
