Nintendo Switch still has more to offer, as evidenced not only by the games that the Japanese hybrid continues to release, but also by the support from Nintendo to the console’s internal software. Despite being seven years old, the Nintendo Switch has received a new firmware update, reaching version 19.0.0 on October 8, 2024.
Despite rumors of its successor’s imminent arrival, Nintendo continues to release updates for its popular hybrid console in an attempt to give it an equally active and stable end-of-life as the previous years. Therefore, according to the official patch notes, this update focuses on general system stability improvements to optimize the user experience.
An internal change in Switch that could mean everything and nothing at the same time
A somewhat vague description for a new update, so users have delved in to extract all possible hidden details. ‘OatmealDome’, the dataminer, has pointed out that almost all components of the system have been updated, which is common in big versions like this, as the entire operating system is rebuilt with a new version of the software development kit (SDK). This could indicate significant changes for game developers, although not necessarily related to the launch of a new console, the much talked about Switch 2.

Version 19.0.0 follows the 18.1.0 update, released in June of this year, which was linked to the interruption of integration with some social platforms. Although this new update does not introduce visible novelties or major changes that we can highlight, the system rebuild suggests that Nintendo is still preparing the ground for future implementations or deeper adjustments in its digital infrastructure.
With a history of stability updates that has been constant in recent months, Nintendo continues to demonstrate its commitment to keeping the Switch optimized for its millions of users.
