“The game doesn’t test you until you hit the endgame” The World of Warcraft community is tired of arguing in Mythic+ – World of Warcraft.

The subreddit dedicated to World of Warcraft, which is also one of the largest communities on the portal, has faced a challenging debate this week regarding the endgame of the iconic MMORPG: user Rohtlam opened a somewhat loaded thread in which he shared his frustration against those players who, in summary, do not measure up in the toughest content and sow discord among those more prepared.

“It’s crazy the amount of times in [Mythic+5, +6 or +7 dungeons] where people don’t understand the mechanics, heroic raids where people simply stand in places where they shouldn’t be or mash the DPS keys and do mediocre damage at best before blaming the tank or healer,” laments Rohtlam: “the average WoW player is not good at the game.” He later edits his comment, emphasizing his point: “I’m talking about people who participate in content above their skill level and blame others, wasting everyone’s time.”

The massive success of Throne & Liberty also reflects one of the saddest changes that MMOs have undergone. There are more people than ever, but nobody talks to anyone

This opinion, highlighted by our German counterparts at Mein-MMO, has generated over 3300 positive votes —after global tallying— and 2300 comments from other community users, who as you can imagine, are quite divided on Rohtlam’s assertion. The most prominent of them, shared by Enflamed-Pancake, hits the nail on the head in my humble opinion: the blame for this is, to a large extent, on WoW’s design.

Blizzard doesn’t push you until Mythic+

“The game doesn’t do anything to ensure that the player understands their class or essential mechanics until they reach the endgame content,” argues the user. “You level up by doing simple quests, get gear in trivial dungeons on normal or heroic difficulty and then you crash into modern M+ dungeons, where you either have a solid knowledge of the game and your class or you fail miserably. If Monster Hunter asked you to hunt 50 Great Jagras on normal difficulty and then immediately sent you to face a Master Rank Rathalos, most would agree that it’s a terrible difficulty curve.”

The feeling that WoW is too easy beyond the strictly endgame scenario seems to have struck a chord with other platform users; although several also lament that during the Cataclysm expansion, the game required you to complete certain training before being able to queue for mythic dungeons. Blizzard ended up removing that mechanic in Legion due to criticism. “People expect to be able to do everything without learning anything first. They just want things handed to them,” adds KRULLIGKNART.
