A 1983 Macintosh prototype used by Steve Jobs is the star of an auction set to be historic

Published:

Although more than a decade has passed since the passing of Steve Jobs, the co-creator of Apple continues to be the subject of stories of all kinds. A few days ago, we learned about his vision of the 10-minute rule, a doctrine that neuroscience has praised by pointing out that it makes you smarter. However, it is not the only news related to the past that we have learned in recent years, as we also took a look at what happened in the 80s due to the tense confrontation that marked the cold relationship between Bill Gates and Steve Jobs.

Steve Jobs believed the 10-minute rule made him smarter, and now neuroscience has proven him right

Therefore, this time we also travel back in time, and in fact, we do it with a story that took place over 40 years ago. As the French portal JeuxVideo indicates in a recent publication, an auction house intends to release “Twiggy” to the market, a computer that not many will know, but has a very relevant history for the tech industry: it was a Macintosh prototype that was unveiled in 1983.

It is expected to exceed a value of 100,000 euros

As mentioned in the original news, Twiggy’s nickname comes from the 5.25-inch floppy disk drive of the device. Currently, this prototype has an estimated value ranging between 70,000 and 110,000 euros, but it is expected to exceed this amount in the auction that will take place on October 23 in New York. Thus, faithful to the idea of the Macintosh project that began in the 70s to bring an affordable computer to the general public, “Twiggy” became the flagship of this idea, as it was used to create demonstration software and test functionalities.

This was one of the few prototypes that survived the destruction ordered by Steve Jobs, who decided to abandon the “Twiggy” drive in favor of a more reliable 3.5-inch drive. Additionally, it also has unique features, as it enjoys a rudimentary plastic casing with the signatures of all those who worked on the Macintosh development team. Therefore, the excitement surrounding this product has caught the attention of computer enthusiasts and, according to early predictions, the price will easily exceed 100,000 euros.
