Gmail wants to revolutionize the way we use emails with new “summary cards”

Published:

A few days ago, Google confirmed that it continues to carry out the purge of Gmail accounts with the intention of freeing up space on their servers. In this way, users will have to meet a simple requirement if they want to avoid this condition, as they could be at risk of losing their account if they do not engage in any activity for 2 years. Additionally, the tech company also announced the arrival of a new Gmail tool that reduces the risk of scams, but fortunately, this is not the only great addition they have unveiled.

The Pixel 9a could be just around the corner, as Google intends to compete against Apple's budget iPhone

As pointed out by The Verge in a recent publication, the new feature of “summary cards” in Google’s option highlights important information from emails to facilitate access without the need to search manually. Thanks to them, relevant information is displayed according to the context, allowing users to access information related to the arrival of a package, a link to the return policy, and more. In fact, the cards will apply to emails related to purchases, events, trips, and invoices, gathering the most essential information to offer it in a simple and direct way.

A tool that enhances user experience

For instance, The Verge indicates that if you search for “Delta” to access a flight, Gmail will show you a card with the details of your upcoming trip, thus avoiding having to check multiple confirmation emails. Likewise, if you are expecting a package, the cards will appear at the top area when opening Gmail, providing you with the necessary information at all times. However, this initiative has sparked some controversy, as this type of changes may not be suitable for all users, and therefore, some may consider that the cards are not useful.

Thus, Google demonstrates its confidence in artificial intelligence with a tool that, furthermore, does not require a deep use of either itself or other advanced technologies of the company, since it simply enhances Gmail’s ability to analyze emails and extract useful information. Regarding its availability, these are already starting to appear in individual emails on iOS and Android devices for emails related to purchases, with plans to add them to other categories later on. With this move, it is confirmed that Google remains true to its ideas: Gmail is not just an email service, but also a source of varied information.
