China trusts to surpass the United States with the “Xinchuang” initiative and Huawei is its main asset for it.

Just over a week ago, we learned that Huawei intends to make a master stroke against Windows by integrating HarmonyOS into its computers. With this move, the Chinese-origin company wants to reduce the impact of Microsoft’s operating system by betting on their own, as they currently have a market of millions of users not only in their home country but also in the rest of the world. Through a deep examination of the inside of a Huawei laptop, we have discovered that China is heading towards technological self-sufficiency.

The United States does not hide its fear of potential illicit use of AI by China, Russia, and Iran and analyze the consequences

As Ars Technica indicates in a recent publication, Huawei has developed the Qingyun L540 laptop with components and software designed in China. In this way, they aim to eliminate as much foreign technology as possible, becoming a symbol of “Xinchuang”, a Chinese campaign for technological localization that promotes innovation and self-sufficiency in this sector. Therefore, they have accelerated efforts to create a national technological supply chain, focusing on fundamental components such as semiconductors.

Chinese President Encourages Companies to Follow Huawei’s Model

Xi Jinping, the top leader of the Asian country, has called for an increase in research and development of semiconductors, as these chips are essential components of machines and software. Thus, Chinese state agencies have started replacing American processors with local alternatives, which is why companies like Huawei, Zhaoxin, or Phytium are gaining prominence. Also, as the campaign to reduce foreign technology has grown, it now affects not only laptops and products for cars but also telecommunications and other various sectors.

Therefore, the Huawei laptop opts for the Unity operating system (based on Linux) and leaves Windows aside. Furthermore, it also relies on apps developed in China like a text editor created by Kingsoft, which uses a different format than Microsoft. However, despite the progress made, the Qingyun L540 still uses some foreign components: its Kirin 9006C processor is from Taiwan, its USB controller is from the American company Microchip, and its memory chips are from the Korean company SK Hynix. Nevertheless, even though total independence is a challenge, China is on the right track.
